There's no bloodshed or whatsoever and the whole world looked in awe to the Philippines. At the end of the revolution, then President Ferdinand Marcos conceded to Mrs. Corazon Aquino as President of the Philippines. Mrs. Aquino was the wife of a Filipino martyr and honest and strong-willed statesman, Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, who was killed due to political reasons, allegedly by Pres. Marcos' group.
By the way, why am I writing this blog and why did I say that I'm proud "in part" of the EDSA revolution? Well, I like to share my sense of patriotism as a Filipino by remembering the EDSA revolution, one of the most important part of our history. However, just like what I've heard in the radio today, this kind of revolution, though peaceful and have changed the tyrant government, like Pres. Marcos, is nothing if we did not have the change that we are looking for, the change in the government and the change of the social and economic standings in the Philippines. But, though there are changes (President have been changed, "some" of the government officials have been removed and changed) but the poverty is still there, crimes that are crying for justice are still there, corruption in the government that is eating our society like cancer is still there. Yes, revolution is all we need for a change. But we need also to search in our souls even as an ordinary countrymen, are we really involved in the revolution or we are just playing along with what the majority of the Filipino people are playing, with what some of the government officials are saying. I believe its better to find the change within ourselves in order to have major changes in the society, in the government, of the people, by the people for the people, thank you, hehe.
Well, I don't have to go to EDSA tomorrow or anywhere else to show my patriotic side of me. I think I need to be more involved with my family first, family values, the local community and then eventually, the national community. And whatever we do, it'll be our own responsibility alone.

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -

Child and Teenage Kidnapping Scare in the Philippines

This gossip/news has been going around in the last few days. A kind of crime syndicate is alleged to be kidnapping kids and teenagers and then eventually selling the victims internal organs in the black market. It's really scary. 'Dunno if it's real but I've heard of some cases in our area, not in the radio or television, though. There are also text messages spreading around that tells of the news and even mentioned the group's modus operandi. The group use vans or minivans, drives around an area and tries to find potential victims. When they find one, they will nab him/her and then put him/her to sleep with some drugs. And then, who knows what will happen then, and at the end, the victim's internal organs are sold in the black market. The text messages even mentioned one van's plate number and description, hehe.. Red and green van with plate number VM?-50?. The gossip/news even mentioned a Taiwanese character included in the crime syndicate....
But, anyway, it's not that hard to take extra care. Take care, you guys and your family. But, hey, I kinda enjoyed it because, ang inyong abang lingkod (your humble servant), is fond of music, too. Just check out my other blog @ Exceldeo's World of Music. Anyway, I enjoyed the last two days of American Idol Season 7 'cause of that first round for the last 24 American Idols. They would have to sing their own renditions of 60's songs and since it's the Beatles era, I could easily recognize the songs and some of the singers/artists of the particular songs. But I have to tell you, I am not an oldie, ha.. hehe.. I'm just 28 years old, but I just love music and I think I have a better knowledge of popular music than an average guy at my own age.
I learned yesterday that there is a Filipina in the competition. Her name's Ramiele Malubay and I kinda like her. She got this natural voice that's ordinary but unique (how's that), hehe. I mean, she sings very natural but she'll put you in anticipation of something evertime she sings, bitin but magaling. She'll keep you wondering what she'll do next on her vocal skills and with the song that she's singing but after that climax moment, you'll be left satisfied, hehe. Just like $3+, I guess. hehe. Last night at the first round, she got the most beautiful of the performances according to the judges, especially, Simon. Just check on her profile at Ramiele Malubay, American Idol Season 7.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2jK9pMPsc78/R76FFwtGAQI/AAAAAAAAAAU/zZF2_I2P0h8/s400/ramiele+malubay.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5169715756287787266" />

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -

Reminiscing the Old Days

Last night is another one of those nights spent reminiscing the old days. I was talking with my Father-in-Law who, I can say, has little passion for the Arroyo government. We were talking about this Lozada issue and after minutes of blah-blah-blah, we just went back in time. First, during the Magsaysay regime when he said that life back then was very simple. Those were the days when the local people's job are fishing in the Aplaya, Bauan, Batangas area, creating pawid (a kind of nipa product) and during night time, the only things that people are doing were drinking shots of lambanog and playing the guitar, serenading the dalagitas and dalagas of their time.
And we then went on to the Marcos regime. At first, my father-in-law said that the Philippines was among the most popular tourist destinations, the richest in whole Asia in terms of economic growth and agricultural aspects. It was the time of the miracle rice when most Asian nations' finest in agriculture were coming to study in the Philippines. It was the time also of the Central Luzon Azucarera, the Ilocos tobacco products and others. He was proud to be a Filipino even though he was just a farmer, he said.
But after that, the Martial Law. At first, he said, it was good for the people. It was very quiet, everything was in order, the only setback was Imelda's corruption schemes. However, after a while, it wasn't good at all. There were murders, exploitations and other forms of corruptions. Even though after the overthrow of the Marcos government, however, there's still these corruptions going on. He said it's "Usong-uso" or "In mod". Sadly, the corruption even seeps to the minds of young people. With the advent of technology, the mobile phones, internet, etc, the way of the youth changed also. Gone were the days of harana (serenade), mamamangka (boating), tuklong ng mga grupo ng kabataan (youth gatherings) and others.
He said, he misses those days. His childhood days.

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -

Job Hunting (continued..)

Job hunting continued?? hehe.. Well, its another day to add for my 28 years here on Earth but hey, I'm still hunting job after almost a month of unemployment. Its "gruelling ordeal?", haha. Actually not but I'm eyeing two good companies and hopefully will be called this week after almost a month of interviews, exams, from-overseas interviews, gone to Manila for 3 hours, stayed there for just an hour or two for exams and interviews and travelled 3 hours back to Batangas... The first company, formerly named after two english surnames with "dash" (-) in the middle, is an international company and popular for its printers, laptops and desktops, and even server products. And the other one is an industrial digital electrical equipment company that presents opportunity of going to the US (Big Apple) for trainings and "the job calls for it" moments. But, hey, I'm still unemployed!!! It's really hard when you are infected cause you have to take a rest for a day or two and it kinda bored me. The worst things are these bouts of coughing, sore throat and fever which wasted my body to general discomfort. Anyway, I already had taken some medications and rest, and eventually, my body + medications will defeat this flu virus and leave them to die a "horrible death"?? Is there a horrible death for viruses, hehe.. I guess so, I can't tell, but only those scientists or whatever you call them can.. hehe.. Today, they had this news from an American Idol Season 7 segment where a Filipino in mid-forties was featured. His name is Renaldo Lapuz, a Walmart employee, and he sang his original song entitled "We Are Brothers". The segment's funny because he sings so "sintunado" (out-of-tune), hehe, as what the commentator in the radio thought so. But for me, he got a nice voice, the arrangement of the song itself might not be finished, though. But he's very popular now in the US and in fact, the song has been covered many times now, hahaha.. I don't consider myself to be inexperienced in hunting job and working, in fact I already have five or more years of experience working in different companies and with different nationalities. But, in my opinion, one of the factors that preventing me to find a job easily is that most of my job experiences are in abroad and I haven't had any enough experience working in an enterprise work environment here in the Philippines, which I am trying to go in. But I hope, a job comes sooner, hehe. It's a fact that in the beginning of world currency trading, the Great British Pound had been the main currency of trade mainly because of the Great British Empire. However, after World War II and since most of Europe had been devastated by war and US was the only one left unscathed, the US economy was in boom i.e. most of the products coming from America was very cheap and top products compared to other countries. It was at that time after World War II that the US dollar (USD) became the main currency of trade. Almost anywhere in the world, the US dollar were exchanged. However, this is one of the factors that affect the decline of the US dollar. Including are the decline of the US economy, products from US getting more expensive everyday, the oil and petrochemical industries, the small wars, terrorism, where US is always key figure, and others eventually helped on the decline of the US dollar and continue to do so. The European Union was formed mainly to boost European econonomy and to get stronger than US. After almost just a decade and without World War, the Euro is showing its presence and eventually may force US dollar to its knees.

"In the principle of all revolutions, war is one of the best answers to change." - Popular Phrase

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -

Kakaibang Ideya Para sa Eleksyon ng Presidente Sa Pinas

Tandang-tanda ko pa ang aming topic nuon ni Marhgil nung kami'y classmates pa sa BSU, I think it was 8 or 9 years ago.. Actually, sa kanya tong ideyang to, hehe..
Hhehe..
Why, hell, i was searching for a job, hehe.. And luckily, i was interviewed yesterday and i hope it will be the break that i'm "always" waiting for.. The last time I was there, I was preparing my papers for a Saudi Arabia job. And I think Makati is very different as I remember 4 years ago.. I can't exactly pinpoint what are those things but I guess it was the feel of the environment.. I think it was cleaner than I thought it was, more metropolitan and more people running around, and I guess it can be compared to other popular cities I've visited abroad, and deep inside, I'm a lil bit proud of what I saw yesterday.. She didn't eat with me. She was still not saying anything to me. She just knocked on my room's door and when I opened it, she motioned me to come with him and judging by the time and the way we were going, I understood that we were going for dinner.
I went to bed and fell asleep as my head hit the pillow. I believe it was only after five minutes when I heard some movement or rather felt movement at my feet. I was trying not to open my eyes because I was really afraid of what I might see at that time. But I thought to myself, I would rather not die with nothing or just staying that way.
I braced myself and started to open my eyes very slowly. The room was very dark and if there was light, it was coming from the half-opened French window. As my eyes were adjusting to the dark, there i saw some movement just below my feet and under the bedsheet at the edge of the bed. And I noticed, at that same location, there a form materialized under the bedsheet and getting bigger. It was like a big head, as big as a man's, and now the form is distinct, like an animal, a dog, and it was slowly coming towards my feet, towards me, under the bedsheet. I couldn't feel my heart, I could hear my ears exploding to the sound of silence, I was frozen, too afraid to move.
Then suddenly, the door opened with a loud bang and a gush of wind. The form was nowhere, it was gone. But I felt that something jumped out from under the bed sheet, I didn't see a thing. it was a big creature, i thought. WheN i looked at the door, my heart skipped a beat. There was a girl in red dress standing, her back at me. She had raven black flowing hair. She was the girl in my nightmare. She suddenly walked, leaving the door open. I hurriedly got up and ran to follow her. It was just after only a second when I reached the door, but she was already at the end of the hallway going down the stairs! I was afraid but determined to know what was happening. I felt it was not another nightmare, it was very real to be a nightmare, too vivid. But I noticed at that split second, all the colors around me where in black and white, I could only see red, her dress!!

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -

A Day in One's Life

There was a tragic death or so everybody says
His mind was blown away
It was really the end of the line for him
The end of everything

You'd been dreaming, you're a dream
It was a dream, just dream

Everyone couldn't grasp, all shocked
He lived his life in the fast lane
Everyone looked and they turned their back
A man says accept the fact

'Twas a nightmare, for everyone
a nightmare for everyone

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -

Who’s that Desert Fox?

For your information, reading history books is one of my hobbies especially, the World War II. Though, it’s very hard to imagine that what happened in that time are real, look at the world now. It really happened! Well, anyway, let’s learn from the fact that it might happen again and maybe, just maybe or, I guess, for sure we can avoid it happening again. I don’t wanna be a pessimist, but let’s forget it now and go to the topic of my post.
Who’s that desert fox? I guess most of you haven’t heard of Field Marshall Erwin Rommel, hehehe. Well, I haven’t heard of him too but not after I was thirteen years old. That was a long time ago, huh, hehe. : ). He’s the Fuhrer’s most favorite general and Field Marshall, and as history books say, he’s an accomplice on the Fuhrer’s failed assassination that cause him his life. Well, the facts(?) that I've read in most books and educational materials which I really believed, is that he's the scapegoat on Hitler's failed assasination and him unknowing till the time of his suicide. But anyway, his legacy still lives on as one of the best field general and the most chivalrous military officer in WWII. Have you seen a general giving orders at the frontline of the battlefield, hehe?? Anyway, read his bio.

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -

Paul McCartney on Bass Playing

I think most of you have read in some articles that the Beatles, which is, without question, the most popular and most influential pop group in the whole world are also the most over-rated band, hehe. Well, I guess it’s the writers’ opinion and I don’t have to argue on that. But for me and as a Beatles’ fan, what more can I say, you know.
And what about Paul McCartney’s bass playing? I believe that Paul is one of the best bass players of all time. And as you can see, if you are a Beatles’ fan or not (grab some books or albums, hhehe), in the course of their musical history as a group, they started as just a simple rock & roll band, which also had just started to become popular recently at that time. Paul’s bass playing was influenced by rock & roll but he had already started to put different flavors by experimentation to bass tracks on some songs in their earlier albums. And from album to album, you will notice the use of new and innovative bass tracks. They were also, I believe, the first band to use bass solos on tracks. And by the way, in those days, the bass players were usually the ones who are the poorest guitar player in the band. But starting on Beatles popularity, it suddenly became cool to be the best player.
Listen to the bass parts on these tracks, “I Saw Her Standin’ There”, “All My Loving”, “Michelle”, “And Your Bird Can Sing”, “Hey Bulldog”, “Come Together”, “Birthday”, “Rain”, “Helter Skelter”, and many others. You will hear how difficult but good the bass parts are, and imagine, Paul was playing that bass tracks while singing in their concerts. I tried one of them, “I Saw Her Standin’ There”, it’s very hard to sing and play the bass part at the same time, hehe. Or maybe I’m not that very good.
More on this on next blog…

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -

I was still thinking of that big black cat. And the door opened with a loud creaking sound that was different from the gate. The door opened from my first three knocks and I thought that was fast, as if the person inside had seen me coming from the driveway. Ms. Cannarella was the oldest person I had ever seen, she was eighty-five years old, very frail, a gentle wind could knock her out, with leathery skin but more leathery than an average old person, her eyes were almost white but I could see that she can see normally, her hair were all white but not balding. She walked very slowly and her voice was like coming from beneath the ground. It was the first time that I met her, though I had heard her name from my father. She used to work in one of my aunt’s horse’s stable in Ledice, a village hundred miles from here.
After she opened the door, she didn’t say a word nor motioned me to come. I just followed her and when I asked her who are the other persons in the house, she just looked at me and stared for five seconds. She still didn’t say a word but motioned me to sit down and grabbed my only bag. I was surprised how strong she was, she carried my bag very easily! While she was grabbing my bag, my right hand accidentally brushed against her hand, I felt shocked how cold she was. She was as cold as ice! When I recovered from the shock, she was starting to descend onto the stairs.

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -

Where did it came from? Well, it’s one of the Beatles’ track in Revolver album! The title is a product of Ringo Starr’s malapropism such as A Hard Day’s Night.
Even though I wasn’t born in Beatles’ time, I suppose it’s obvious that I’m a Beatles’ fan. ‘Learned to play guitar on Beatles’ songs, became musically inclined, and hell, have known other artists through them…
Well, Tomorrow Never Knows is one of my most favourite Beatles’ song with respect to melody (very simple but unique in Western music, I guess) and lyricism. Using harmonic drone throughout the song mostly use in Indian classical music, with only one chord, C. And the lyrics, please read and find the meaning of it for yourself, is a product of the psychedelic era of the time and according to some books, The Love You Make by Peter Brown, John Lennon got its inspiration from the Tibetan Book of the Dead while tripping on LSD. I think he’s right.
Anyway, if you have any ideas as to what is the meaning of the lyrics, just email me or comment on this post. Ciao.

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -

My first attempt on Poe-esque short stories

Walking along the dirt pathway to the town that was three miles away from the train station under a heavy rain was not a good idea, but still, my persistence to get to the place where I was born was very strong and I felt the warmth of this urge underneath my wet clothing. I really didn’t understand what brought me back to this desolate place that I didn’t even think about, or never entered my mind for the 30 years of my life but the in the last few weeks, there’s a thought that I couldn’t really grasp and a feeling that made me deprived of sleep at night and those same dreams, or it might be nightmare, night after night, when a chance of sleep came. In my dreams, though very vague, it’s like I’m in limbo, floating, or sometimes, just an audience of what was happening in my dreams, and the woman, whom I never met before but there’s a feeling that I already knew her and met her, was always the center of that dream. It was like she’s urging me to come with her to a place by the hill and it was hazy and as the dreams went on, then I knew that I have known about the place, that same hill with a small brook beside it and the familiar solitary oak tree that stand strong as it always has and bore an almost faded inscribed text Ec****.
As I strode the murky walkway to the house that bore my family name, I took time to study and remember the place where I grew up until my 7th birthday; it was the same broad wrought iron gate where my father used to ride with his horses, the same high brick wall though looked older with the moss growing on it and had traces of minute cracks, and standing at the front of the gate, I pushed it open and a little bit of surprised how easy it was. (to be continued)..
I struggled my feet to walk through the gravel driveway which was mostly ankle deep with water and uneven and fell three times, and with that third time, in the corner of my eye, I thought I saw something moved behind the small trees that lined the driveway at the right side, or I must have perceived something that was out of ordinary and since the place was anything but ordinary, I really couldn’t exactly tell that something moved. I stopped for a moment and tried to think of what it was but felt it was nothing and continued to walk. At the third step, when everything seemed to be normal that I saw, or rather felt it, that something moved at that same place, and was greatly shocked for a second, the same feeling that is felt by all people when they thought that everything is normal but then an extraordinary thing suddenly came. It was a big cat, almost as big as a small dog! Trying to calm my shock, it looked at me for a while with its big glassy grey eyes that seemed to swallow me up and fall inside of them. It didn’t move a bit when I continued to walk and then I wondered what on earth is a cat doing under the heavy rain and realized I was thinking of it too much now that I felt goosebumps started to crawl on my skin. I suddenly turned to look at the cat but it was gone. I turned from side to side, but it couldn’t be found and not even a trace of its feet or shadows as if it wasn’t been there!

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -

Tomorrow Never Knows (Beatles)

Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream It is not dying It is not dying Lay down all thought Surrender to the void It is shining It is shining That you may see The meaning of within It is being It is being That love is all And love is everyone It is knowing It is knowing That ignorance and hate May mourn the dead It is believing It is believing But listen to the color of your dreams It is not living It is not living Or play the game existence to the end Of the beginning Of the beginning Of the beginning Of the beginning Of the beginning Of the beginning

- The Desert Fox, Deutsche Afrika Korps, North Africa -
